Xian is the capital of the famous Shaanxi province of China, a vast area located in a central part of north-west China.
The city borders the northern foot of the Qinling mountain range to the south and the banks of Wei river to the north.
To the east of the city is the beautiful Mount Hua, one of four sacred Taoist mountains and a major tourist attraction.
There are also plenty of attractive parks within the city, including Huaquing Pool Park, which has a history stretching back 3,000 years.
The cuisine of Xian is also highly regarded within China.
The best-known local dish is a spicy Hui-style beef and mutton snack that is often accompanies with pancakes, noodles and mutton soup.
Visitors need not go no further than the bustling markets to try these dishes, as it is a favourite dish cooked up by street vendors.
