BANPO NEOLITHIC VILLAGE
This is the second most popular attraction of Xian after the Terracotta army and offers the remains of a village that was inhabited more than 6,000 years ago.
The village contains the remains of 45 houses and other buildings, which were protected from attacks by a 300 metre long moat.
There is also a cemetery that contains the remains of the dead along with earthen pots in which many of them were buried.
Within the village are examples of early pottery along with stone tools, such as axes, knives, shovels and millstones.
In addition, there are personal ornaments, including hairpins, beads and rings that were made from bonds, shell and animal teeth.
As a Neolithic site it is among the richest in the world.
